DIVINAS COMEDIAS
JAMES MERRILL
Divinas comedias, published in 1976 and awarded with the Pulitzer Prize, is the first of a series of James Merrill's books. This first volume contains one of the most relevant narrative poems of the 20th century: Lost in Translation, made into a movie by director Sofia Coppola and considered by some critics as autobiographical. In this poem, author James Merrill bares his soul open before his readers, a tedious, void-of-emotion soul, unable to reconcile his past existence with present life. In order to understand this poem, the reader has to solve a puzzle which main piece has been kept hidden since childhood by the author.
