Simposium papers. The University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC), in collaboration with the University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI) and the Museum of Contemporary dÀrt Barcelona (MACBA), held the International Symposium on Aesthetic and Emancipation through a critical review of postcolonial discourse in its significance for the various political, social and cultural rights 200 years of the independence movements in Latin American realities. The Symposium has as its starting point the bicentenary of Latin American independence war and tries to provoke a questioning on the issue of emancipation, primarily from the Southern Hemisphere postcolonial dynamics, transcending the celebratory, uncritical and nationalistic tone of the independence anniversary. It encourages excess bridging the gap between the discourse of emancipation in Latin America, the discussions on the social and aesthetic movements in the region and, in a broader sense, the fields of critical theory and postcolonial discourse in contemporary thinking that allows the specificities of each process at a time to mark the places of tension and loss.
